Meet Dr. Lyon

David B. Lyon, MD, FACS
Specializes in Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery and Strabismus (Eye Muscle Disorders)
Dr. David B. Lyon received his medical training at the SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, N.Y. After an internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. He received his fellowship training in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisc.
Dr. Lyon is a board-certified ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery. This area of ophthalmology deals with diseases and abnormalities of the eyelids and face, the lacrimal (tear) system and the orbit (bony cavity surrounding the eye). He performs aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery as it relates to the eyes and surrounding facial structures on patients of all ages.
In addition to his private practice with Sabates Eye Centers, Dr. Lyon serves as a professor of ophthalmology at UMKC School of Medicine’s Department of Ophthalmology. His faculty responsibilities include teaching ophthalmology residents in ophthalmic plastic surgery and conducting clinical research. He has authored numerous scientific papers, journal articles and textbook chapters on many aspects of his subspecialty.
Dr. Lyon is a scientific reviewer for several national publications. He has held numerous leadership positions within the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and serves on the board of directors for the Vision Research Center.
